The FIS Cross-Country World Cup in Nové Město na Moravě is coming soon and everything indicates this event could be one of the tops of the cross-country season. Because of the worldwide problems with the pandemic most venues are cancelled or miss the top names. Hopefully, the situation in spring could be calmer so it is possible the Czech resort could host one of the most elite start lists in this season.
The World Cup is again dominated by Norwegian skiers led by Johannes Klaebo and Therese Johaug. However, the Norwegians are not participating in the prestigious Tour de Ski because of a fear for the athlete’s health. This event consists of eight races and is considered to be the top event of the season. Klaebo is even going to miss all December races. Other cross-country stars from Sweden or Finland are also hesitating their participations in all events.
According to all signs the skiers will aim their form to February when the main top venue of the season will take place in Oberstdorf as well as the World Cup in Nové Město na Moravě. We can expect the Vysočina Arena will welcome the world stars of cross-country skiing accompanied by Kateřina Razýmová and Michal Novák. He will finally race at home when he unfortunately missed his last year NMNM participation because of health troubles.
Czech skiers opened the new season by gaining points – Luděk Šeller finished 22nd in Finland, Michal Novák also did not miss top 30 when ending at 29th place. Kateřina Razýmová was even more successful when in Davos closed top 10, she is currently sitting at 23rd place with 66 points. Kateřina Janatová, who made her life maximum by 13rd place, has also scored already. Razýmová finished both last year races in top 10.
What can we expect in this season?
