Novák scored in Falun again

In the second race in Falun Czech skier Michal Novák finished at pointed position when ranking at 19th place in Sprint C. Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo (NOR) and Linn Svahn (SWE) were winners in their competitions.

Czech skiers faced really difficult competitors. Fresh Norwegians jumped back on the track and regarding the home environment Sweden could nominate more skiers who perform very strong in sprints – in qualification there were together 24 Swedish racers, both men and women. Right 16 out of them ranked to top 30 (8 men and 8 women).

The best and only one Czech to advance from qualification was Michal Novák who finished at 21st place. He started his quarterfinal race from sixth position from the stadium but in every uphill section he attacked his rivals. He returned to stadium at 4th place behind a trio that jumped ahead. The advancing skiers were Oskar Svensson, Swede who won sprint at Tour de Ski in Val di Fiemme, and Federico Pellegrino, Italian who is a leader of this event in WC. Michal Novák finally ranked at 19th place.

"In qualification I felt physically very well and I´m glad I made it to advance. There were sprinters from Finland who missed Tour de Ski, Sweden had this all group of skiers and Norwegians were fresh because they skipped some competitions,” Michal Novák said. "I´m quite sorry for the result of the heat. When we tested the trail in the morning, there were some frozen places in curves that´s why I chose more careful but worse line during the quarterfinals. Now during the race there were no such places, which I couldn´t know and I lost some time there. I deleted my margin in uphill but then I got it again later when my skis almost stopped. Moreover, I couldn´t keep myself in a group in downhills. But it wasn´t because of bad waxing, the service team has done great job today, it was the skis themselves.”

Women were fighting with the best possible competition. Tereza Beranová was at 12th place after 400 metres but 2 km later she did not keep this position. In finish she ranked at 43rd spot losing 3.42 seconds to top 30.

"It wasn´t enough to advance but I cannot say I´d be disappointed. I did my best, in finish my legs were stiff because this sprint was really a tough one. Also, my skis were great so that´s why I was a bit surprised that my time wasn´t enough. The important thing is I´ve moved myself a step forward again and the way is good, I´m happy," Tereza Beranová said.
