Young ski racer Kateřina Janatová was the only Czech woman to finish a stage race at the Tour de Ski. One week later she did not miss a sprint weekend in Dresden and now she is preparing herself to the home World Cup in Nové Město na Moravě. "Sometimes the fatigue comes later so I can only hope this won’t happen in NMNM. I’ll do my best to reach the best possible result in the distance race," Janatová says in the middle of a good season.
Have you absorbed impressions from the Tour de Ski? How do you evaluate this race backwards?
I have to say it was hugely difficult in terms of physical and psychological point of view. Many people in the team got sick so I tried to stay positively balanced and it helped. I had so many impressions that it was difficult to absorb all of them at once, I realize it now.
What did you gain by finishing all stages? Did this experience make you stronger?
Mainly self-confidence to the following races. I stopped being nervous and everything was so fast that I didn’t even think of anything else. I pushed my limits a step forward, gained experience in mass starts and also how to move in a group.
How was your first day after return from the Tour going?
I have to say I dropped from exhaustion. A man can finally turn off when he/she comes back. I slept a lot, eat a lot and went to sauna.
What about your last races in Dresden? Are you happy with your performances in individual or team sprint?
This sprint weekend in Dresden ranks among my most favourite ones so that’s why I felt it could be really good. My individual race started amazingly, 8th place in qualification is fantastic, I’d never believed I can go so fast. However, in the race I missed the start and when I tried to go ahead, I broke my stick right at the moment Parmakoskiova fell down and I had to get round her. I have to say I’m excited how we get better in the team races. I believe we can get closer to podium.
You are the only Czech racer who finished the whole Tour de Ski as well as the races in Dresden, now you are awaiting the World Cup in NMNM. How do you cope with this busy programme?
I think everything has gone well so far. Sometimes the fatigue comes later so I can only hope this won’t happen in NMNM. I’ll do my best to reach the best possible result in the distance race.
What is your best type of regeneration in the racing time?
I often visit sauna, I like warm in winter months. But it’s true that this season I don’t have much time for that.
What do you look forward the most?
I look forward to start in front of the home fans. My goal is to stand in top 30.
